seriousmoonlight: (gone fishin')

This weekend The Robert Shaw Film Fest goes on (so far Jaws [naturally, since Quint is my main man. And I'd dislike him like whoa in real life but watching him do his thing in the movies is great -] and From Russia With Love (first non Daniel Craig Bond film! Now the floodgates are open and I plan to try and watch the Dalton movies soon) with The Taking of Pelham One Two Three orginal style, and Force 10 from Navarone (hey baby faced Harrison Ford! And Bond Girl/Mrs. Ringo Starr Barbra Bach!)

So my plans to go to the 2000 Leauges Under The Sea book club did not pan out as I had planed, thanks to the transit strike* (I can not walk to the bookclub meeting place, thus I can not go.) But I am going to finish this book!

(Is there a giant squid? Am I dreaming that there is a giant squid?)

seriousmoonlight: (BLAM)
So one of the books I'm reading at the moment (I ... need to read more then one book at a time, just the way she goes) is The Butane Special: A Weird West Tale by Mke Resnick. The back tells me it features amongst other things, a steampunk western setting, zombies, Thomas Edison, Doc Holiday, The Earps, and The Thing That Was Once Johnny Ringo. So far - I'm about 50 pages in and it's amusing me.

And as for the concert -- almost packed, almost ready to go. RAIN is happening however, and has caused me to re-think some clothing choices. Here's hoping the sun breaks out and we get a Beautiful Day. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Be glad I didn't talk about going Where The Streets Have No Name, because I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For because of all this damned Vertigo, that I get at this Elevation.

. . . . .

seriousmoonlight: (i <3 my job (being ironic))
- I'm dressed more on the casual side of business casual, but I think I should be okay. I feel like hell (yay the summer cold that will not die) but I slept the whole night through which is a plus! I also managed to stay up until 10 soooo, also a plus! I've been going to bed at 8:30-9 all week. Yes. While it's still light out sometimes.

- Work is ... work. I'm kinda unhappy about some things that are going on, but whatevers. I'm paid well. And this too shall pass. And what I'm unhappy about is out of my control to a degree. Whatever. Am trying to cheer myself up and not dwell on the negative.

- Been doing a lot of reading lately - god I love reading. Have read some books lately that I have really epically loved, so am thinking of doing a big ole book pimp post. Of course I know that what I love might not be everyone cup of tea, but yes.

- Also been catching up / watching Teen Wolf. I really WANT to like this show, but for some reason I'm just kidna ... eeeeh. It might be because I'm really not feeling well, so I'm watching the show while in a cold induced daze and maybe that is it. There are moments that kind of draw me in, and moments of "hee!" but I'm just not overly loving the show. THAT said, I'm going to keep watching because there's a kind of mystery built into the show and I want an answer ... :P
seriousmoonlight: (oh my gosh; books; woes)
I admit I might have a problem - this is my pile of “books to read”. Physical books that is, and this isn’t taking into account the ton I have in ebook form. I will admit I *have* read some of these books before, but the ones in the pile are ones I want to re-read.

5 6 7 8 - Baby I blew it )
seriousmoonlight: (this calls for a dance off!)
One: The New Joel Plaskett single "Jimmie's Still Jimmie is amazing. Oh man I have it on my iPod and I have been playing it over, and over and over.

Two: My desk feels ... weird. I've packed pretty much everything up and moved it to the new desk, but it is all just boxed up there. Kinda nervous, kinda excited.

Three: Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last? - That's right Matrix, you did! - I lied. Err, so have decided to forgo reading We Are Two next to read Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon. The book store clerk said it was creepy which is awesome, am in the mood for some creepy! I should finish Vegas Knights first but ... yes.

Four: La Noire is aaawwweeessoommmeee! Okay. Am having some issues with the whole driving thing. And shooting thing, but I think I shall get a hang of it. I haven't played as much as I want to (I got home last night and sort of died ...).

Five: Happy Victoria Day Long weekend to those who get to enjoy a long weekend! And umm, everyone else - have a good one!
seriousmoonlight: bookshelf with books, and the text bookworm (bookworm)
I am not happy unless I am reading at least two books at a time. Maybe it is because I have a short attention span - or well it is probably something to do with my attention span. That and I got into the habbit of having a book at home (typically a hard cover) and a book for the road (a paperback) and maybe a library book. Now that I have my Kobo it is like ... hardcover, paperback, e-book, and maybe a library book. Whoops.

[I have this stress that I'll be out somewhere with my ebook and the thing will die on me, so I tend to carry a paperback around in my purse with my ebook so I have a book backup. that and while I really do love my ebook - SO MANY BOOKS in such a compact space! - I like holding a book in my hand

Know what I am excited for? I am excited for the book Deadline by Mira Grant. This is the sequel to Feed..

Feed has been one of the best books I've read so far this year (I know we are only in May - but out of the books I've read so far? Have LOVED IT. So much.

And you know what's cool -- the author is posting cool world building shorts, in her livejournal!

Okay so that was my plug :D.

Now on to what I'm reading now ... )
seriousmoonlight: (lord of the dance)

Ahahah. Beautiful day.

Going to the Strombo Show tapping tonight! Don't know what I'm going to do today (probably wander around).

Choosing Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption as my book to read on the plane was not the best choice I've ever made. It combines two of my biggest fears: Shark attacks and plane crashes. Plus .. it is brutal. The story is amazing mind you, and just ... I really have no words. I'm not done yet, but it is am amazing (TRUE) story.
seriousmoonlight: bookshelf with books, and the text bookworm (bookworm)
The last two years I have set the goal of "read 100 books this year" [read = read for the first time, or re-read], and for the last two years - I haven't quite made it. So this year I decided to scale it back, and make my goal 80 books.

Well. That was going along so well I decided to say screw it, and say I'm going to make it all the way to 100. So. We'll see how this goes.
seriousmoonlight: bookshelf with books, and the text bookworm (bookworm)
I fell asleep at 8:30 last night. Slept right through to 12' (I was on the couch). Then went to bed, and slept until 8:00 this morning. Booo.

Anyways, time for a random ... Book Interlude!

Or in which I bemoan the number of books I wanna read )
seriousmoonlight: bookshelf with books, and the text bookworm (bookworm)
Rec me a book. A book that is an e-book. Because I have a coupon for 35% off, but it expires in 48 hours. (Am playing the "Spin to Win game that Kobo has going ....). I read ... pretty much everything, but I like fantasy the most, or books about Shakespeare. Or fictional books that have Shakespeare and magic!
seriousmoonlight: Toby Daye from Seanan Mcguire's Toby Daye novels (Late Eclipse)
I think (as in I'm 98% sure that it was) on Smart Bitches, Trashy Books site that I first saw a video for this show. This show being Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Now my love for 80's movies / TV knows no bounds nor does my love for anything to do with spies (especially if its silly in nature) plus Bruce Boxleitner.

Youtube Video and Wiki oh my! )

Also I can't believe I'm about to make a comment about Gossip Girl but oh well. All I can say is after Monday nights ep is finally. I have rooted for this since Season One, and finally. Now of course I have to wait until April (April!) for resolution. Blah.

Also since this is the entry that is bouncing all over the place ... yesterday two books I was very much looking forward to were released Late Eclipses by Seanan Mcguire and River Marked by Patricia Briggs.

Typically I would have purchased these in book form, but I went with the e-book option as I was home sick yesterday thanks to a killer head cold (still working on recovering fully) and I wanted to own right away.
seriousmoonlight: Aurora From Alpha Flight; crazy as they come (chitter chatter)
Going to work today was a big mistake. But I'm not going to dwell -- I'm just going to do meme's until it is time to go home, and I can go to bed.

Library meme! )
seriousmoonlight: (bad girls have all the fun)
I'm having some shortness of breath, probably because I can't breathe through my nose. I feel pretty miserable and probably should have stayed at home, but alas. I also stayed up late watching The Oscars (crashed out on the couch with a blanket and a kleenex) so I think part of his my own doing, So I'm at work, and thinking that I'm going to have to pass on Chuck tonight, and DVR it for watching some time later in the week. (I just don't see me making it to 10' which is when the show ends my time.)

Consumerisim under the cut! )

To Do

seriousmoonlight: (bunny ears!) says I'm a Kinda Dorky Nerd God. Click here to take the Nerd Test, get nerdy images and jokes, and write on the nerd forum!

So the truth comes out at last ;)

Am looking forward to having the next two days off work (woo!) and hope to make a dent in my reading list/reading pile o books. I also plan on going through the the three boxes of books in the spare room and do some serious letting go. I love books, I have a book addiction but I have run out of room, and I need to acknowledge that I don't need a lot of the books I have.

Also, since I can't find a lot of my DVD's I'm also going to sort out those.

So yes, days off work = days of epic cleaning. Or possibly binging on TV. Sometimes I make epic plans and just ... run out of steam.
seriousmoonlight: (eps;)
I kind of want this T-shirt. And I kind of want to re-read Frankenstein.

There are not enough hours in the day for all the things I want to do, damnit.

Random aside: Whenever I start to get all "i need more time to read!" I think about that Twilight Zone episode with the atomic bomb [I think] and the guy who survives it and now has all the time to read but [spoiler alert!] breaks his glasses. That really, really, really upset me as a kid. To the point I remember rationalizing to myself that he could find new reading glasses [somehow] and be okay. To this day I get a bit agitated thinking about it -- which I guess is the intention of the show. Bravo Twilight Zone. Bravo.

One of the other things that haunts me from my childhood [besides the fear that someday I'm gong to open my fridge and find a zigurat in there] was this episode of [I think] Tales From The Crypt in which a guy gets buried up to his neck in sand on the beach, and then is left there to die/drown as the tide comes in. Then he comes back as a zombie-ish thing ... in my head I see him walking down a hall with seaweed hanging off him. I have no idea if this is from the show, or just something my brain has come up with. Either way I still think about it and go; "Arugh!"

You know from a very early age I've loved the idea of being scared. I like scary movies, scary books, ect. I don't like the aftermath all that much [it really is no fun to lie there at night thinking; "Well I'm freezing but I'm not reaching down to the floor to grab the covers I've kicked off" after watching Paranormal Activity] or when I have nightmares [like last night!] about being trapped at work because of zombies [honestly: I think that dream was more about work stress then the zombies.].
seriousmoonlight: (party is the name of the game)
Spent part of today stalking my holds page at the library, to see if any more of my books had come in. One of the books (Fledgling by Octavia E Butler) that I'm going to read for an online book club ( Calico Reaction) has come in, so that's cool. Going to try and get a head start on that one, and on Elfland which I'm reading for The Women of Fantasy book club.

I also have been stalking the return of my Kobo e-reader to the Kobo people via Puralator. It broke (WOE) but they have taken it back, and are going to send me a new one (YAY) but they said it would be 10 business days from when they got the broken one back. So. I stalk via Puralator, and hope it gets delivered to them soon, so the process of me getting a new one can be started.

And then there was MUSIC )
seriousmoonlight: (with glowing hearts -- err eyes)
I feel reappy crappy today. Urgh.

I'm behind on the NaNoWriMo novel. I fell walking up the stairs to my house last night, and now have a bruise on my arm, and just ... meh.

However -- a random reading of the blook review blog at EW (I was avoiding work. I admit that) let me know that there is a new Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro nove by Dennis Lehane out! I am very excited for Moonlight Mile!

I don't read a lot of mysteries, but I love the books that Lehane writes about Kenzie and Gennaro. I like their banter. I like that the books are set in Boston. So I am excited!

And now I have to make a run to the book store on my lunch break. Woo-Hoo retail therapy!

Now if I can just give myself a good kick in the butt about NaNo, and get some NaNo therapy I'll be all set!
seriousmoonlight: Scarlet Witch casting a spell (she turned me into a newt)

So the weather report says: Rain at times heavy. Amount 25 mm. Fog patches. Wind southeast 60 km/h gusting to 90. High 16.. So. Am doing the 'please don't go out power' chant. However because of the bad weather I am declaring this to be my stay at home, and write and read weekend.

and maybe play some Dragon Age if I do really good at NaNoWriMo. DA I MISS YOUUUU!

I must pimp two series / authors right now.

And Random YouTube Music! )

If we can all pretend this was posted on Friday which is when I wrote it? that would be fab. I wrote it at my work computer and left it saved in my at work Microsoft Word. Whoops!

Written Friday, Aug 27th

Okay. so last night I was watching CityTV, and they re-ran the paint
ball episode of Community. Now I only have seen about three
episodes of this show, I was amused by them, but it aired at the same
time Supernatural did, and well. Sorry, but SPN won out.

Anyways, paint ball episode = one of the most amazing things ever. Or
to me. Because it was all action movie cliche and just ... it was

That show is on my To Watch this fall.

I need EW or some other website to post some Fall TV Preview thing --
because I'm lazy, and don't want to go and seek out all the premiere
dates myself.

Day 16 -- Book Meme )
